Reproducing marble is an art form that can be applied to any feature or area, such as columns, mantles, doors and door frames, where you would want the effect of real marble without the drawbacks, such as expense or weight. Some types of faux marble are simple to do, while others are more complex in the layering and veining process. While faux marble can be created using a variety of products, most are made by applying several layers of custom mixed glazes.

This niche was originally installed white and unfinished. The built-in wood base has two types of marble and a trompe l’oeil treatment. Glazes and specially mixed products were applied to create transparent layers of marble for the columns.

This customer requested colors in the marble that represent wealth in the Chinese culture. Gold and green were selected to produce a whimsical faux marble treatment.

This close-up shows the use of trompe l’oiel over marble. The surface is flat but the trompe l’oiel treatment gives an illusion of different levels.

This green faux marble panel located on a 15' living room wall was made using custom mixed glazes applied with a variety of art brushes.
